It's Time to Read Some Books
Intro to the 2023 Library Read Project / 2023 Marital Disharmony Plan
I feel like it's a form of humble-bragging but to understand this blog you need to understand the biggest cause of marital disharmony between Kat and I. While we're both voracious readers, on one point about reading we have an irreconcilable difference of opinion. I’m of the, “The person with the most physical books in their home at the end wins” school and Kat firmly believes they’re supposed be something you get from libraries and owning them is a moral failing.
This year Kat decided as what is no doubt social commentary, to put printed slips with "Last read in 2022" into every one of my physical fiction books. The paranoia in me feels the real purpose is to be able to tally things up at the end of the year to truly prove that I don't need more bookshelves, I just need to let go of untouched books to make space. Since I’m nothing if not stubborn, my plan in 2023 is to re-read as many things as possible to create a personally advantageous datapoint about the use of my personal library.
Since just reading them didn't feel like enough fun I've decided that I'm going to catalog the whole process for posterity on the internet because it feels like just the right level of dumb. For those following along I must warn you that most of what I'll be reading are books that I have found I prefer in a physical, printed format. This warning is not, however, to excuse my no doubt very trash tastes. Feel free to judge me, that's what content on the internet is for.
